Graduate Cover Supervisor (Sports Focus) - Blackpool Secondary School
Long-Term Contract | Full-Time (5 Days a Week) | Start Date: Monday 3rd November 2025
End Date: July 2026 (Academic Year Contract)

A supportive secondary school in Blackpool is looking for a confident and authoritative individual to join their cover team. This full-time, long-term role focuses on managing and supervising classes of up to 30 students in the absence of the regular teacher, with a particular opportunity to apply your sporting/coaching skills to engagement and behaviour management.
The Role: Dynamic Classroom Leadership
This position is ideal for someone who thrives on challenge, has excellent presence, and can effectively lead and motivate groups of young people (aged 11-16).
Class Supervision: You will supervise whole classes (up to 30 pupils) primarily across KS3 and KS4, covering pre-set lessons during short-term teacher absences (not expected to teach or plan).
Behaviour Management: The core of this role is maintaining a focused and productive learning environment. You will utilise your strong communication and leadership skills-honed through sports, coaching, or similar roles-to manage student behaviour and enforce school policies consistently.
Engagement: Motivate students to complete the pre-set tasks, encouraging a positive work ethic and participation, particularly drawing on a proactive, coaching style.
Reporting: Report back to the Head of Department/Cover Manager regarding student engagement, completed work, and any significant behavioural issues encountered during the lesson.
Support Duties: When not covering classes, you may assist the PE department, Inclusion Team, or general school administration, depending on need.
Essential Requirements
A degree in Sports Science, Coaching, Physical Education, or a similar discipline. Highly experienced candidates from coaching, military, or youth leadership backgrounds will also be considered.
Proven experience in successfully leading, managing, or supervising large groups of young people (age 11+).
Exceptional presence and authority to manage challenging adolescent behaviour confidently and calmly.
Excellent communication skills, resilience, and a high level of professionalism.
A firm commitment to the entire contract duration: November 2025 - July 2026.
The Contract
Role Title: Cover Supervisor / Classroom Manager (Graduate Focus).
Contract Type: Full-Time, Long-Term Academic Year Contract.
Hours: 5 days a week, term-time only (core school hours).
Start Date: Monday 3rd November 2025.
End Date: July 2026.
Location: Blackpool Secondary School.
