Specialist Behavioural Teaching Assistant - Blackpool Secondary School

A supportive secondary school in Blackpool is seeking a dedicated Behavioural Teaching Assistant to join their inclusion team. This is a crucial, full-time role focused on supporting pupils with complex Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) and significant challenging behaviour across Key Stages 3 and 4.
The Role: Expert Behavioural Support
You will be placed at the heart of the school's strategy to improve student conduct and attendance, working primarily with identified vulnerable learners.
Intensive Intervention: Provide expert one-to-one and small-group support to pupils exhibiting challenging and disruptive behaviour, often working in a dedicated withdrawal or inclusion setting.
De-escalation Specialist: Confidently and calmly implement established behaviour support plans and specialised de-escalation techniques to manage crisis situations and promote self-regulation.
Positive Role Model: Act as a consistent, firm, yet nurturing mentor, building strong, positive relationships that encourage students to adhere to school rules and re-engage with their learning.
Data and Reporting: Accurately record and report on behavioural incidents, feeding back to the SENCO and pastoral leads to inform and refine student support plans.
In-Class Support: Assist class teachers in adapting the learning environment to minimise disruption and maximise the inclusion of pupils with behavioural needs.
Essential Requirements
Significant Experience supporting children or young people (age 11+) with challenging behaviour and associated SEMH needs is mandatory.
Proven ability to implement effective behaviour management and de-escalation strategies (e.g., Team Teach or similar training is highly desirable).
Exceptional personal resilience, patience, and a non-judgemental approach to complex social and emotional barriers to learning.
A relevant qualification (e.g., Level 3 Teaching Assistant, Youth Work, or equivalent professional experience).
The Offer
Contract: Full-Time, Long-Term Contract (potential for permanent conversion).
Start Date: Monday 3rd November 2025, or ASAP.
Location: Blackpool Secondary School.
