SEN BSL Specialist Teaching Assistant - Northampton (via Tradewind Recruitment)
Are you an experienced SEN practitioner with strong British Sign Language (BSL) skills who is passionate about supporting young people with hearing impairments and communication needs? Tradewind Recruitment is seeking a SEN BSL Specialist Teaching Assistant to support pupils across our outstanding partner schools in Northampton. As a key member of the school's SEND team, you will help ensure students who rely on BSL can access learning, participate fully in school life, and develop their communication and independence.
Your Responsibilities
Provide 1:1 and small-group support for pupils who use BSL.
Facilitate communication between students, staff, and families.
Support the delivery of differentiated lessons and personalised learning plans.
Use BSL confidently to interpret instructions, model vocabulary, and support learning tasks.
Work collaboratively with teachers, SENCOs, and external professionals.
Promote emotional wellbeing, independence, and positive behaviour.
Adapt resources to support visual and language-based learning.
Maintain accurate progress notes and contribute to review meetings.
You Will Need
BSL qualification (Level 2 essential; Level 3+ desirable).
Experience supporting students with SEND, particularly hearing impairments.
A calm, patient, and empathetic approach.
Strong communication and teamwork skills.
A commitment to safeguarding and inclusive practice.
