We are currently recruiting Pastoral Support Assistants to join a number of secondary schools in the Northampton area from January 2026. These roles offer a fantastic opportunity to work closely with students, helping them overcome barriers to learning and thrive both in and out of the classroom.
Role Overview:
As a Pastoral Support Assistant, you will play a key role in promoting positive student wellbeing and behaviour. You'll work alongside safeguarding leads, behaviour teams, and teaching staff to ensure students feel supported, listened to, and ready to learn.
Key Responsibilities:
Providing 1:1 and small group pastoral support to students with emotional, behavioural, or attendance challenges
Supporting the implementation of behaviour and attendance strategies
Building strong, trusted relationships with students, acting as a key adult for those in need of additional support
Assisting with student check-ins, daily reports, and targeted interventions
Supporting the safeguarding team in addressing wellbeing concerns
Liaising with parents, external agencies, and school staff to promote student success
Supervising reflection or inclusion rooms and supporting positive reintegration into lessons
Promoting a culture of respect, inclusion, and resilience across the school
Ideal Candidate:
Experience working with young people in schools or youth/community settings (desired but not essential)
A calm, consistent, and non-judgemental approach
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
Ability to build trust and strong relationships with students from all backgrounds
Emotionally resilient and confident when managing challenging situations
Knowledge of safeguarding and pastoral practices in schools (training provided if required)
A genuine desire to make a positive difference in students' lives
