Job Description
Alternative Provision Teacher (QTS or Unqualified)
Location: Colne, Lancashire
Start Date: ASAP (January 2026)
Contract: Full-time, Long-term
The Role: Lead, Inspire, and Transform
Are you a natural communicator who believes that "behavior is communication"? We are looking for a resilient, creative, and empathetic individual to join our dedicated team in Colne.
Our provision supports students who have found mainstream education challenging. These young people often have Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs or ASC. Your mission isn't just to deliver a curriculum; it's to provide a "fresh start" every single day and help students rediscover their confidence.
What a Typical Day Looks Like
08:30 - Team Huddle: Briefing with SLT and your TAs to discuss triggers and emotional "check-ins" for the arriving students.
08:45 - The Meet & Greet: You are at the door, reading body language and setting a positive tone for the day.
09:15 - Nurture & Literacy: Starting the day with a low-pressure breakfast and conversation before transitioning into core learning.
11:00 - Creative Curriculum: Delivering hands-on, practical lessons (Science, Art, or Topic) designed to bypass the "fear of failure."
14:00 - Personal Development: Leading sessions on social skills and emotional regulation (e.g., Zones of Regulation).
15:00 - Debrief: Once students depart, the team celebrates the "small wins" and preps for tomorrow.
Who We Are Looking For
We welcome applications from Qualified Teachers (QTS/QTLS) and Unqualified Teachers/Instructors with significant experience in PRUs, youth work, or residential care.
The Unflappable Mindset: You remain calm under pressure and can de-escalate challenging situations with empathy.
Relationship Focused: You understand that learning only happens once a student feels safe and valued.
Adaptability: You can pivot a lesson plan on the spot to meet the emotional needs of the room.
Experience: Previous work with SEMH, SEND, or vulnerable youth is highly desirable.
Why Join Us?
Small Class Sizes: Typically 5-8 pupils per group.
High Support Ratios: At least two experienced Teaching Assistants in every classroom.
Meaningful Impact: You will see the direct result of your work in the improved well being and engagement of your students.
Local Community: Conveniently located for commuters from Colne, Nelson, Burnley, and Skipton.
How to Apply
If you are ready to make a difference where it is needed most, we want to hear from you. Please submit your CV and a brief cover letter outlining your experience with "hard-to-reach" learners.
