Job Description
Urgent: SEN TA for Outdoor Alternative Provision. Support a Class 6 group in a wilderness-based setting. SEMH, ASC & ADHD focus. Temp-to-perm. Start ASAP!
The Opportunity
Are you a Teaching Assistant who believes that some students learn best when they have room to breathe? We are recruiting for a resilient, active SEN TA to join a specialised Outdoor Alternative Provision.
Instead of a traditional four-walled classroom, you will be supporting a Class 6 group in a range of outdoor environments. This setting is specifically designed for learners who have struggled in mainstream education and require a kinesthetic, nature-based approach to re-engage with their EHCP goals.
The Role
In this role, you will be the primary support for students with SEMH (Social, Emotional, and Mental Health) and Complex Needs. You will help deliver a "Forest School" style curriculum that balances academic progress with physical wellbeing.
Key Responsibilities include:
Outdoor Mentoring: Providing 1:1 support during practical, outdoor-based lessons (e.g., bushcraft, navigation, and environmental projects).
Positive Behaviour Management: Using de-escalation techniques in open-space environments to support students with ADHD and ASC (Autism).
EHCP Tracking: Assisting the Lead Teacher in monitoring Education, Health and Care Plan progress through observational evidence.
Therapeutic Intervention: Utilising the "Nurture Group" principles to support students with EBD (Emotional and Behavioural Difficulties) and trauma-related barriers.
Candidate Requirements
Experience: Background as an SEN TA, Outdoor Activity Instructor, Support Worker, or Youth Mentor.
Personal Attributes: You must be physically fit, resilient to the British weather, and have a "can-do" attitude toward outdoor learning.
Skills: Proficiency in building rapport with "hard-to-reach" young people and a strong understanding of Safeguarding in an outdoor context.
Compliance: Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to apply for one).
Why Choose This Role?
Active Working: No more sitting behind a desk spend your workday outdoors making a tangible difference.
Small Cohort: High staff-to-student ratios with a Class 6 maximum, ensuring you can provide high-quality support.
Career Path: Start on a Temp-to-Perm basis with a clear route to a permanent contract and specialist outdoor education training.
