Job Description

Teacher (Qualified or Unqualified) | Alternative Provision | Burnley

Location: Burnley, Lancashire (BB10/BB11 area) Salary: TBC (Unqualified Scale to UPS) Contract: Full-Time, Permanent Start Date: ASAP or September 2026

The Role: Impact Beyond the Standard Classroom

Are you a resilient, high-energy educator looking for a teaching job in Burnley that actually makes a difference? Our leading Alternative Provision (AP) is looking for a Teacher (Qualified or Unqualified) to join our secondary-aged team.

Forget the "exam factory" pressure. Here, we focus on the whole child. You will be teaching small groups of students (maximum 8 per class) who have found mainstream education a challenge. Whether you have QTS or are an Unqualified Teacher with trade experience, sports coaching background, or youth work expertise, we want your passion.

Key Responsibilities

  • Engaging Delivery: Plan and deliver core or vocational subjects to students with SEMH (Social, Emotional, and Mental Health) needs.

  • Relationship Building: Use a trauma-informed approach to re-engage Burnley learners who have been excluded from mainstream settings.

  • Alternative Provision (AP) Success: Work as part of a multi-disciplinary team to improve attendance, behavior, and life skills.

  • Progress Tracking: Monitor and celebrate small wins that lead to big breakthroughs for our pupils.

What We Are Looking For

We are hiring based on attitude and character as much as qualifications.

  • Qualified Teachers (QTS/QTLS): Experienced practitioners looking for a smaller, more impactful environment.

  • Unqualified Teachers: Individuals with a strong subject knowledge (e.g., Construction, Sport, Art, Maths) and the ability to manage a classroom.

  • Resilience: A "thick skin" and a big heart are essential for working in an AP setting.

  • Burnley Community Pride: A desire to help local young people overcome barriers and succeed in Lancashire.

Why Join Our Burnley AP Team?

  • Competitive Pay: We match or exceed the national pay scales for both qualified and unqualified staff.

  • Growth: We offer a fully funded Teacher Training pathway for high-performing unqualified staff.

  • Work-Life Balance: No more endless weekend marking. We prioritise staff well-being and offer localised PPA time.

  • The "Burnley" Advantage: Join a supportive, tight-knit staff team in a brand-new, modern facility.
