A caring and inclusive secondary school in Northampton is looking for a Pastoral Support Officer to join their team from March or April 2026. This is a fantastic opportunity to work closely with students who need extra guidance with behaviour, attendance, or emotional wellbeing-helping them grow, succeed, and feel fully supported in school.

About the Role

As a Pastoral Support Officer, you will help create a safe, respectful, and nurturing school environment. You will work with students, staff, and families to remove barriers to learning and ensure every student has the support they need to thrive. This will include providing 1:1 and small-group support to help students develop resilience, positive behaviour, and confidence.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver 1:1 and small-group pastoral support for student wellbeing

  • Support behaviour and attendance strategies, including check-ins and monitoring progress

  • Act as a trusted adult for students with emotional or behavioural needs

  • Oversee reflection or reset spaces to encourage restorative practice

  • Assist with safeguarding responsibilities and escalate concerns appropriately

  • Build positive relationships with students, staff, parents/carers, and external agencies

  • Promote resilience, inclusion, and respectful behaviour across the school

Who We're Looking For

  • Experience working with young people (schools, youth work, mentoring, or similar)

  • A calm, empathetic, and confident approach to supporting students

  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills

  • Ability to manage sensitive situations with professionalism and discretion

  • A team player passionate about student wellbeing and inclusion
