Job Description

Location: Blackpool, Lancashire (FY1 - FY8) Salary: Paid to Scale (£102.83 - £121.83 per day) Contract Type: Long-Term Temporary / Full-Time Start Date: Immediate / September 2026

Are you a Scout Leader, Guide Leader, or Explorer Scout Leader with a knack for keeping a group of teenagers engaged, organised, and inspired? Have you ever thought about taking those transferable skills into the classroom?

We are looking for individuals who can use their "real-world" leadership experience to work as a Pastoral Cover Supervisor in a Blackpool secondary school. If you can manage a campsite or a troop of 30 Scouts, you already have the "presence" needed to manage a classroom.

Why Your Scout/Guide Skills Matter

Teaching isn't just about textbooks; it's about leadership, discipline, and mentorship-areas where you already excel.

  • Group Management: You're used to keeping 11-16-year-olds focused during activities; you'll do the same while they complete set school work.

  • The "Be Prepared" Mindset: Your ability to think on your feet and adapt to changing situations is exactly what a school needs during teacher absences.

  • Pastoral Care: You understand the importance of confidence-building and emotional support for young people.

  • Presence: You possess the natural authority to command a room without being overbearing.

The Role: Classroom & Pastoral Support

  • Covering Classes: Leading lessons across various subjects (no subject-specific expertise required, as work is pre-set).

  • Mentorship: Using your background to mentor students who may struggle with traditional academic structures.

  • Activity Leadership: Assisting with extra-curricular clubs or outdoor education sessions where your skills can truly shine.

  • Team Collaboration: Working with the school's pastoral team to ensure a positive environment for Blackpool's youth.

What We Offer

  • Professional Transition: A supportive environment to turn your volunteering or part-time leadership into a full-time career.

  • Paid to Scale: We recognise your years of leadership experience and pay accordingly.

  • Work-Life Balance: No weekend camps required (unless you want to!)-standard school hours with your evenings and holidays free.

  • Training: Full induction into classroom management and safeguarding protocols.

Requirements

  • Active or recent experience as a Scout/Guide Leader or similar youth leadership role.

  • The ability to provide references that speak to your leadership and safeguarding experience.

  • A resilient, "can-do" attitude and a genuine passion for the Blackpool community.

  • An Enhanced DBS check (we can assist with this).
