SEMH & ASC Specialist Teaching Assistant - Blackpool (FY)

Location: Blackpool, Lancashire (Local Primary/Secondary/SEN Provisions) Salary: £102.83+ per day (dependent on experience) Contract Type: Full-Time, Long-Term (with Temp-to-Perm opportunities) Start Date: Immediate / September 2026

Are you a resilient, empathetic, and dedicated educator looking to make a genuine difference in Blackpool? We are seeking a Specialist Teaching Assistant with a passion for supporting pupils with SEMH (Social, Emotional, and Mental Health) needs and ASC/ASD (Autistic Spectrum Conditions).

In this role, you won't just be an "extra pair of hands" you will be a mentor, a stabiliser, and a key advocate for students who find the traditional classroom environment challenging.

The Role: What You'll Be Doing

As an SEMH/ASC Teaching Assistant, your day-to-day will involve:

  • One-to-One Support: Working closely with specific pupils to manage emotional regulation and focus.

  • De-escalation: Utilising trauma-informed approaches to manage challenging behaviours and prevent crises.

  • ASC Strategy Implementation: Using visual timetables, Now/Next boards, and sensory breaks to support students with Autism.

  • Progress Tracking: Monitoring emotional and academic milestones in line with EHCP (Education, Health and Care Plan) targets.

  • Collaboration: Working alongside the SENCO, class teachers, and external therapists to provide a holistic support system.

  • Proven Experience: Working with SEMH, ASD, or ASC in an educational or youth-work setting.

  • Resilience: The ability to remain calm and professional in high-pressure or confrontational situations.

  • Relevant Training: Ideally, you will have (or be willing to undergo) Team-Teach or similar de-escalation training.

  • Communication Skills: Strong ability to build rapport with "hard-to-reach" learners.

  • Local Knowledge: A commitment to improving the lives of young people within the Blackpool community.
