Location: Burnley, Lancashire (BB10 / BB11) Salary: Up to £31,850 per annum (Dependent on experience) Contract Type: Full-Time, Temp-to-Perm Start Date: June 2026 / September 2026

Are you a teacher who thrives in the fresh air? We are seeking a Lead Outdoor Education Teacher for a specialised Alternative Provision in Burnley.

This role is open to both Qualified (QTS/QTLS) and Unqualified Teachers who have a passion for mentoring young people through outdoor adventure and classroom-based learning. You will be responsible for re-engaging students who have found mainstream education challenging.

The Role: Impact Beyond the Classroom

In Burnley, we have access to incredible local landscapes. You will utilise these to provide a holistic education for students aged 11-16:

  • Dual Learning Environments: Delivering academic support in a classroom setting and lead-instructing outdoor sessions including bushcraft, orienteering, and team sports.

  • SEMH Focus: Using outdoor challenges to help students develop emotional regulation, resilience, and confidence.

  • Curriculum Planning: Designing engaging lesson plans that meet the diverse needs of learners with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) requirements.

  • Community Integration: Building positive relationships with Burnley youth and providing them with positive role models.

What We're Looking For

  • Versatility: Whether you have a PGCE or years of experience in the Scouts or Mountain Leadership, we value your ability to lead and inspire.

  • Character: You must be resilient, empathetic, and possess strong behaviour management skills.

  • Local Knowledge: An understanding of the Burnley area and a desire to make a difference in the local community.

  • Outdoor Skills: Relevant outdoor qualifications (e.g., Mountain Leader, Forest School Level 3) are highly advantageous.
