Alternative Provision Maths Teacher - Re-engagement Support | September Start
Tradewind Recruitment is working with partner schools to recruit a dedicated Alternative Provision Maths Teacher to support students returning to education after extended absences due to mental health challenges, physical health conditions, or other barriers to mainstream attendance.
This is an excellent opportunity for a teacher who is passionate about helping young people rebuild confidence in learning and re-engage with education through a personalised, supportive approach. The role focuses on delivering Maths in a way that meets students where they are academically, while also supporting their wider emotional and social development.
Many of the students accessing this provision may have experienced significant disruption to their education and require a calm, consistent teacher who understands the importance of trust, routine, and relationship-based learning. You will play a key role in supporting learners as they work towards reintegration into mainstream education or continued success within specialist provision.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver engaging Maths lessons tailored to students within alternative provision settings
- Support pupils with re-engagement into education following prolonged absence
- Adapt teaching to meet a range of abilities, from foundational numeracy to GCSE content
- Build positive and trusting relationships with students
- Identify barriers to learning and provide targeted academic support
- Work alongside pastoral teams, SENCOs, families, and external professionals
- Track student progress and celebrate small-step achievements
- Promote confidence, resilience, and attendance through positive engagement
The Ideal Candidate Will Have
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
- Previous experience teaching Maths at secondary level
- Experience supporting students with SEMH, anxiety, trauma, or medical needs
- Strong behaviour management and de-escalation skills
- A patient, adaptable, and empathetic teaching style
- Experience within alternative provision, outreach, SEND, or specialist settings desirable
- Ability to deliver a differentiated and flexible curriculum
