Literacy Mentor - Northampton

Are you passionate about reading, writing, and helping young people unlock their full potential in literacy? Do you want to gain hands-on school experience supporting students who need extra help to build confidence in English?
Tradewind Recruitment is working with a welcoming and ambitious secondary school in Northampton seeking to appoint a Literacy Mentor to join their team either ASAP or from September 2026. This is a full-time role, ideal for graduates or aspiring teachers looking to build experience in education while making a real impact on student progress.
The school is committed to providing a broad, knowledge-rich education that equips students with the skills, confidence, and resilience to succeed both academically and personally. You will play a key role in supporting this vision through targeted literacy support and intervention.
Your Role Will Include:
- Supporting the learning and achievement of students with specific literacy needs
- Delivering 1:1 and small group literacy interventions to improve reading, writing, and comprehension skills
- Supporting classroom learning within English lessons across Key Stages 3 and 4
- Helping to plan and deliver engaging literacy activities and interventions
- Encouraging students to develop confidence, independence, and a love of reading and writing
- Assisting with marking, assessment, and tracking student progress
- Acting as a key point of contact for students requiring additional literacy support
- Working closely with teaching staff, SEN teams, and external professionals where required
Who We're Looking For:
- A graduate (English, Literature, Creative Writing, Journalism, or related subject preferred)
- Someone with strong written and verbal communication skills
- A patient, supportive, and encouraging approach to working with young people
- An individual who is confident working 1:1 and with small groups
- Someone interested in a career in education or teacher training in the future
- Experience working with young people is desirable but not essential
