Media Teaching Assistant - Alternative Provision School

Tradewind Recruitment are working with our client school, an Alternative Provision in Bromley-by-Bow, to recruit an enthusiastic and resilient Media Teaching Assistant to join their team from 1st September.

This is a full-time, long-term opportunity supporting students aged 11-18 with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. The successful candidate will work closely with the Media department, helping students develop practical media, photography, film and digital editing skills while encouraging engagement and positive behaviour.

The school provides a supportive and nurturing environment for young people who have struggled in mainstream education. Staff build strong relationships with pupils and focus on helping every student achieve both academically and personally.

The Role

  • Support students during Media lessons and practical projects.
  • Encourage engagement with photography, video production and digital media.
  • Assist teachers in delivering creative and engaging lessons.
  • Provide one-to-one and small group support.
  • Promote positive behaviour and emotional regulation.
  • Build positive relationships with students who require additional encouragement.
  • Support pupils with SEMH needs throughout the school day.

The Ideal Candidate

  • Previous experience working with young people with SEMH is essential.
  • Experience within an Alternative Provision, PRU or SEN setting is highly desirable.
  • A passion for media, photography, film or digital content creation.
  • Calm, patient and resilient approach.
  • Strong communication and behaviour management skills.
  • Able to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
