Cover Supervisor - Aylesbury, Buckinghamshire

A classroom-based role for an education professional who can take responsibility for learning and behaviour.

A secondary school in Aylesbury, Buckinghamshire is seeking an experienced Cover Supervisor to provide consistent classroom supervision when teaching staff are unavailable.

This role is suited to someone confident working with secondary-aged pupils who can follow lesson plans, establish clear expectations and ensure pupils continue with their work without the regular class teacher present.

What you will do:

Classroom supervision

  • Deliver pre-prepared work and instructions provided by teaching staff.
  • Ensure pupils understand the tasks they have been set.
  • Monitor progress and engagement throughout lessons.
  • Maintain an orderly and purposeful classroom environment.
  • Deal confidently with low-level behaviour and follow school procedures where further intervention is required.

Supporting learning

  • Encourage pupils to complete work to the expected standard.
  • Answer appropriate questions and provide clarification where possible.
  • Report significant issues, behaviour concerns or pupil progress to relevant staff.
  • Ensure classrooms are left organised and ready for the next lesson.

The Ideal Candidate:

You should have:

  • Previous experience working with secondary-aged pupils.
  • Strong classroom management skills.
  • A calm, consistent and professional approach.
  • The confidence to work independently across different subjects.
  • Good communication skills and the ability to follow school procedures.
  • An understanding of safeguarding responsibilities within education.

Teaching qualifications are not essential where you can demonstrate relevant school-based experience, although, graduates, aspiring teachers and experienced education professionals are encouraged to apply.
