Are you passionate about supporting young people and helping them overcome barriers to learning?
Tradewind Recruitment is looking for dedicated and resilient SEMH Teaching Assistants to work with schools across Halton, including Runcorn and Widnes.
This is a rewarding opportunity to support children and young people with social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) needs, helping them develop confidence, build positive relationships and engage with their education.
We welcome applications from experienced Teaching Assistants, as well as candidates with transferable experience in care, youth work, residential support, mentoring or other roles supporting children and young people.
The Role
- Provide 1:1 and small-group support to pupils with SEMH needs.
- Help pupils develop emotional regulation, resilience and positive behaviour.
- Build trusting relationships and provide consistent encouragement.
- Support pupils to engage with classroom activities and access learning.
- Work closely with teachers and pastoral staff to create a safe and supportive environment.
- Encourage pupils to develop their confidence, independence and social skills.
- Respond calmly and consistently to challenging situations, following school behaviour policies and support plans.
The Ideal Candidate
- Has experience supporting children or young people, ideally with SEMH, SEND or behavioural needs.
- Is patient, empathetic, resilient and understanding.
- Can build positive relationships while maintaining clear and consistent boundaries.
- Is confident supporting pupils who may struggle with emotional regulation or engagement.
- Has strong communication skills and works well as part of a team.
- Is committed to helping every young person reach their potential.
