Job Description
Psychology Graduates - Teaching Assistant Roles in Bolton
Tradewind Recruitment | Full-Time Primary School Opportunities
Have you recently graduated in Psychology and are wondering how to put your degree into practice? Are you interested in child development, educational psychology, mental health or a future career working with children?
Tradewind Recruitment is looking to connect enthusiastic Psychology graduates with primary schools across Bolton and the surrounding areas. These opportunities offer the chance to gain practical experience in an educational setting, develop your understanding of children's needs and make a genuine difference to pupils' school experiences.
Whether you're considering teacher training, exploring a career in educational psychology or simply looking to build relevant experience after university, working in a school could be an excellent next step.
Where could you be working?
We support a variety of mainstream primary schools across:
Bolton, Horwich, Blackrod, Egerton, Westhoughton, Farnworth, Little Lever and Kearsley.
There are opportunities in different school environments, allowing you to explore the areas of education that interest you most.
What will the roles involve?
Depending on the school and the needs of its pupils, positions may include:
Pupil Support: Working on a 1:1 basis with children who benefit from additional guidance and encouragement.
Classroom-Based Support: Assisting teachers with lessons, classroom activities and pupils' day-to-day learning.
SEND Teaching Assistant: Supporting children with special educational needs and disabilities, helping them access learning and develop independence.
SEMH and Behaviour Support: Helping pupils manage emotions, build positive relationships and engage with school life.
Specialist Provision Support: Working with school teams to support pupils who require a more tailored approach to their education.
Most vacancies are full-time, Monday to Friday, with typical working hours of 8:30am-3:30pm.
Why would this suit a Psychology graduate?
A degree in Psychology can provide a useful foundation for understanding how children learn, develop and respond to their environment. A school-based role allows you to apply this knowledge in practice while learning from experienced teachers and support staff.
The experience may also be valuable if you are considering future applications for:
PGCE or other teacher training routes.
Educational Psychology training, subject to the relevant entry requirements and experience.
Child and adolescent mental health or wellbeing careers.
Further study or careers involving child development and additional learning needs.
Some of the school trusts we work with also operate their own SCITT teacher training programmes, which may provide a progression route for graduates interested in becoming qualified teachers.
Who should apply?
We are particularly interested in graduates who have studied Psychology or a related subject and are keen to work with children in a school environment.
Previous experience working with children, young people or pupils with SEND would be highly beneficial. Experience in mentoring, tutoring, youth work, coaching or other relevant support settings may also be useful.
Above all, we're looking for individuals who are patient, adaptable, reliable and motivated to help children overcome barriers to learning.
