Job Description

Graduate Opportunities in Primary Education: Bury

Teaching Assistant Vacancies | Tradewind Recruitment

Ready for a new challenge after university? Turn your experience with children into a rewarding school-based career.

Tradewind Recruitment is working with primary schools across Bury to find graduates who are passionate about helping children learn, grow and thrive.

We're interested in candidates from all degree backgrounds. You might have studied Sport, History, Psychology, Law, Languages, Business or any other subject. What matters most is that you already have at least six months of experience working with children and are keen to bring those skills into a school environment.

Whether your experience comes from coaching a sports team, supporting young people in residential care, working in childcare or helping pupils in a classroom, this could be an opportunity to take your next career step.

Explore opportunities around Bury

We recruit for schools across Bury, Ramsbottom, Prestwich, Radcliffe, Whitefield, Tottington and nearby areas.

Depending on the school, you could be working in a mainstream primary classroom or supporting pupils who need additional help with learning, communication, emotional wellbeing or behaviour.

What types of positions are available?

Our graduate opportunities can include:

  • Primary Teaching Assistant: Help deliver classroom activities and encourage children to participate in their learning.

  • Individual Support Assistant: Provide additional guidance to pupils who benefit from one-to-one attention.

  • SEND Teaching Assistant: Support children with additional learning needs and help them access the curriculum.

  • Behaviour and Wellbeing Support: Help pupils develop positive routines, manage difficult situations and build confidence.

  • Classroom Intervention Support: Work with teachers to support pupils individually or in small groups.

The majority of vacancies are full-time, Monday to Friday, with usual working hours of 8:30am-3:30pm.

What experience do you need?

These positions are suitable for graduates who want to use their existing experience as a foundation for working in education.

Applicants must have:

  • A degree in any subject.

  • A minimum of six months' experience working with children or young people.

  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills.

  • A reliable, flexible and supportive approach.

  • The motivation to help children achieve their potential.

Relevant experience does not have to come from a school. We welcome candidates with backgrounds in sports coaching, childcare, tutoring, mentoring, youth services, children's residential care or similar roles.

Experience supporting children with SEND, SEMH or behavioural needs would be particularly useful for some placements.

Develop your skills and consider your next steps

A school-based role offers the chance to learn from teachers, understand how primary schools operate and build practical experience supporting children's development.

For graduates considering a future in teaching, this can be a useful way to explore the profession before applying for further training. Experience gained in school may also support future PGCE applications, depending on the provider's requirements.

We also work with trusts that offer their own School-Centred Initial Teacher Training (SCITT) routes, potentially opening up further opportunities for graduates who meet the relevant entry requirements.
