Job Description
Are you an experienced SEND Teacher or strong Mainstream Teacher with substantial SEMH expertise looking for a purposeful, permanent pathway within a nurturing, specialist setting?
We are seeking a highly experienced, resilient, and dedicated SEND / SEMH Teacher to lead our dedicated downstairs "Hive" class based in Barnoldswick.
Please note: This is a classroom-based teaching appointment, not an outdoor education lead.
The "Hive" is a structured, sensory-adapted classroom designed for pupils with complex Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, communication difficulties, and associated neurodivergent profiles (ASC/ADHD). Due to the high level of individual support required, we are looking for a practitioner with extensive prior experience leading specialist classrooms, managing complex behaviours, and differentiating learning for varied developmental stages.
Key Responsibilities:
Plan, lead, and deliver bespoke, highly engaging, and differentiated curriculum learning tailored to the complex needs of pupils within "The Hive".
Foster a trauma-informed, low-arousal, and consistent classroom environment where pupils feel secure, understood, and ready to learn.
Lead and deploy classroom support staff (Teaching Assistants / 1:1 mentors) effectively to maximise pupil progress and ensure classroom safety.
Implement proactive de-escalation strategies, positive behaviour support (PBS), and emotion coaching to manage dysregulation with patience and empathy.
Monitor, assess, and report on individual academic and pastoral targets (EHCP reviews, personal learning plans).
Collaborate with school leadership, pastoral teams, and multi-agency professionals.
The Ideal Candidate:
Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or significant proven classroom teaching experience with UK curriculum knowledge.
Extensive experience teaching children and young people with SEND, SEMH, ASC, and complex behavioural/emotional barriers.
Confident in leading a specialist classroom provision and coordinating a team of support staff.
Strong background in trauma-informed practice, nurture principles, and positive de-escalation (Team-Teach, MAPA/CPI, or equivalent is advantageous).
Calm, authoritative, and deeply empathetic approach with clear, consistent boundaries.
Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willing to complete one).
What We Offer:
Competitive Salary: Up to £33,000 (pro-rata / day rate equivalent during temp-to-perm phase).
Clear Route to Permanent Employment: Temp-to-perm contract offering security and a seamless transition.
Small Class Size: Dedicated staff-to-pupil ratios to allow for targeted, meaningful intervention.
Supportive Environment: A collaborative, welcoming leadership team dedicated to staff wellbeing and ongoing CPD.
Location: Accessible location in Barnoldswick with on-site parking, easily commutable from Colne, Skipton, Nelson, Burnley, and surrounding East Lancashire/West Yorkshire borders.
How to Apply:
If you have the extensive SEND/SEMH teaching background required to lead our Hive class and make a lasting difference in Barnoldswick, apply today with your updated CV.
