Mathematics Teacher - Secondary School - Southwark

Tradewind Recruitment is seeking enthusiastic, qualified and experienced Mathematics Teachers to undertake supply teaching assignments in secondary schools across Southwark.

We have opportunities for both flexible daily supply work and longer-term teaching placements. This is an excellent opportunity for experienced Mathematics Teachers looking to maintain flexibility while gaining valuable experience in a range of supportive secondary school environments.

The Role

As a Secondary Mathematics Teacher, your responsibilities may include:

  • Planning and delivering engaging Mathematics lessons in line with the national curriculum, where required by the assignment.
  • Teaching Mathematics across Key Stages 3 and 4, with potential opportunities to teach Key Stage 5 depending on experience.
  • Managing classroom behaviour effectively and maintaining a positive learning environment.
  • Assessing pupils' progress and providing constructive feedback, particularly during longer-term placements.
  • Adapting teaching methods to meet the needs of pupils with varying abilities and learning requirements.
  • Working collaboratively with school staff to support pupils' academic progress and achievement.
  • Following school safeguarding policies and procedures.

Requirements

To be considered for this position, applicants must have:

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) recognised in England.
  • A relevant degree, ideally in Mathematics or a closely related subject.
  • Previous teaching experience within a secondary school setting.
  • Strong subject knowledge and confidence delivering Mathematics lessons at secondary level.
  • Excellent classroom management and communication skills.
  • A flexible, professional and reliable approach to supply teaching.
  • A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.

Salary and Pay Progression

Daily Supply Teaching: £150 - £170 per day

Daily supply rates are determined by relevant teaching experience, qualifications, the requirements of the assignment and the level of responsibility involved.

Teachers with greater relevant classroom experience, strong subject knowledge and a proven record of effective teaching may be considered for rates towards the higher end of the advertised range.

Opportunities to achieve higher rates may also arise through:

  • Additional experience: Developing further secondary Mathematics teaching experience and demonstrating consistently effective classroom practice.
  • Progression within assignments: Building a strong track record through successful supply placements and taking on more demanding teaching assignments.
  • Additional responsibilities: Undertaking duties such as lesson planning, assessment, marking, pastoral responsibilities or other agreed teaching responsibilities.
  • Longer-term opportunities: Securing placements involving increased teaching responsibilities, with pay agreed according to the role and applicable Inner London Teachers' Pay Scales.

The advertised daily rate is not an automatic incremental pay scale. Any increase will depend on the assignment, relevant experience, responsibilities and the rate agreed before the placement begins.

Long-Term Teaching Contracts

For suitable long-term teaching assignments, pay will be in line with the Inner London Teachers' Pay Scales, with the applicable rate determined by relevant experience, the nature of the placement and any additional responsibilities.

All pay arrangements will be confirmed before the commencement of an assignment.
