Thank a Teacher campaign urges pupils to celebrate school staff

2020-05-06

Pupils and their families are being urged to get creative for a national campaign celebrating the thousands of school staff who are “working tirelessly in incredibly difficult circumstances”.

Thank a Teacher seeks to recognise staff that constantly do more than is expected, with pupils urged to share cards, video clips, poems and other creative messages on social media using #ThankATeacher and #HowWillYouSayThankYou.

The messages will then be shared on Thank a Teacher Day on 20th May, with the campaign urging the entire country to join together to mark teachers’ “amazing work not only in these challenging times but all year round”.

Organised by the Teaching Awards Trust, chair Steve Munby said the day represents “our way of thanking all the amazing teachers, lecturers and other staff working in our schools…to give their students the best possible education”.

He added: “We have already heard countless stories of teachers and staff who have gone well beyond their duties, and I am sure there are hundreds more stories out there that we’d love to share.”

Schools minister Nick Gibb said he is “prouder than ever” to support the campaign this year, especially given the challenges of teaching both in and out of school in the last few months.

“I hope many adults and young people alike will join me in recording a message of thanks to the inspirational school and college staff that help shape young people throughout their education,” he added.

The Teaching Awards Trust also runs the annual Pearson National Teaching Awards as part of its effort to recognise excellence in education.

As a charity seeking to raise the profile of those in teaching jobs, they constantly seek to showcase inspirational examples of how teachers can have a positive influence on the lives of their pupils.

Pupils wishing to thank their teachers can also use this Thank a Teacher form on the campaign website to send a free E-card. Here at Tradewind we'll also be working on a special thank you message for our wonderful teachers - keep an eye out!
