Job Description

Outdoor Education Teacher | Alternative Provision | Blackpool

Are you passionate about making a real difference in the lives of young people? We are seeking a dedicated Outdoor Education Teacher to join our alternative provision school in Blackpool. This is a unique opportunity to use the power of the outdoors to inspire, engage, and support students who have struggled in traditional classroom settings.

This role is initially a temporary position with the strong possibility of becoming permanent, offering a secure and fulfilling long-term career path. We are looking for someone to start in October 2025 or sooner.

About the Role

As our Outdoor Education Teacher, you will be a key member of a supportive and holistic team. Your primary focus will be on designing and delivering practical, hands-on learning experiences in an outdoor environment. You'll work with small groups, providing a curriculum that not only teaches practical skills but also builds confidence, resilience, and teamwork.

This isn't about formal qualifications; it's about passion and potential. We welcome applications from both qualified teachers and unqualified instructors with a strong background in outdoor pursuits and working with young people.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lesson Delivery: Plan and lead a variety of engaging outdoor activities, such as bushcraft, navigation, and team-building exercises.

  • Skills Development: Foster students' personal, social, and emotional growth through experiential learning.

  • Well-being: Utilise the therapeutic benefits of nature to improve students' mental health and self-esteem.

  • Relationship Building: Develop strong, positive relationships with students who may have complex needs.

  • Safety: Ensure all activities are conducted safely and in line with risk assessments.

What We're Looking For

  • Proven experience working with young people in an outdoor, youth-focused, or alternative provision setting.

  • A genuine passion for outdoor education and its transformative benefits.

  • A resilient, patient, and empathetic approach to supporting students with diverse learning needs (e.g., SEN/SEMH).

  • Excellent communication and rapport-building skills.

  • Relevant qualifications in outdoor pursuits (e.g., Mountain Training, First Aid) are highly desirable but not essential.

If you are an inspiring individual ready to help young people re-engage with education and reach their full potential, we want to hear from you. Apply today to make a lasting difference.
