SEN Teaching Assistant

Location: Wellingborough, Northamptonshire
Contract Type: Full-time, Long-term
Start Date: ASAP / January 2026
Pay: £90-£110 per day (depending on experience)

Tradewind Recruitment is looking for a dedicated and compassionate SEN Teaching Assistant to join a supportive specialist education setting in the Wellingborough area. This is a rewarding opportunity for someone who thrives on making a positive difference in the lives of young people.

About the Role

As an SEN Teaching Assistant, you will support students with a range of additional needs including autism (ASC), social, emotional and mental health difficulties (SEMH), and learning disabilities. Working under the guidance of the class teacher and SENCO, you'll help create a safe, inclusive, and engaging learning environment where every pupil can succeed.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Providing 1:1 and small group support to pupils with additional needs

  • Assisting with the implementation of individual education plans (IEPs) and behaviour strategies

  • Supporting communication, emotional regulation, and social development

  • Encouraging independence and engagement in learning

  • Helping to maintain a positive and nurturing classroom atmosphere

About You

We're looking for someone who is:

  • Empathetic, patient, and passionate about supporting young people

  • Experienced in working with children or young people with SEN (school, care, or youth settings welcome)

  • Confident in using positive behaviour management strategies

  • Adaptable, proactive, and able to work effectively as part of a team

  • Committed to promoting inclusion and equal opportunities for all learners

Requirements

  • Right to work in the UK

  • Enhanced DBS check (or willingness to apply for one)

  • Relevant experience with SEN students is highly desirable
