SEMH Maths Teacher - SEN Secondary School

Tradewind Recruitment is seeking an exceptional SEMH Maths Teacher to join a committed and nurturing team within a specialist SEN secondary school in Northampton. This is an exciting opportunity for a resilient, skilled, and passionate educator who thrives on making a meaningful difference in the lives of young people with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs.

In this role, you will deliver engaging and accessible Maths lessons to KS3 and KS4 students who may present with challenging behaviour, disrupted educational histories, low confidence in learning, or barriers related to trauma and emotional regulation. Your ability to create a safe, structured, and supportive classroom environment will be essential to helping learners re-engage with their education and develop a positive and confident relationship with Maths.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Plan and deliver differentiated Maths lessons tailored to individual learning needs and EHCP targets

  • Use trauma-informed and relationship-based approaches to support emotional regulation and positive behaviour

  • Build strong, trusting relationships that encourage engagement, consistency, and motivation

  • Work collaboratively with SENCOs, behaviour mentors, pastoral leads, and therapeutic teams to ensure holistic support

  • Track, assess, and celebrate student progress, adjusting teaching strategies where required

  • Create a predictable, calm, and safe learning environment that supports self-esteem and resilience

What We're Looking For:

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS or equivalent), ideally with experience teaching secondary Maths

  • Background in SEMH, PRU, alternative provision, or specialist SEN environments

  • Strong behaviour management grounded in empathy, high expectations, and relational practice

  • Creativity, patience, and flexibility in delivering curriculum content

  • A reflective, committed practitioner with a passion for supporting vulnerable learners
