Mental Health Teaching Assistant - SEMH School

Location: Corby, Northamptonshire
Role: Full-time / Long-term (with potential to become permanent)

Tradewind Recruitment is currently working in partnership with a specialist SEMH (Social, Emotional and Mental Health) school in Corby to recruit a Mental Health Teaching Assistant to support pupils with complex emotional, behavioural, and mental health needs.

The Role

As a Mental Health Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with teaching staff and pastoral teams to support students who may experience anxiety, trauma, emotional regulation difficulties, or behavioural challenges. You will play a key role in creating a safe, structured, and nurturing learning environment.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Providing 1:1 and small-group support for pupils with SEMH needs

  • Supporting emotional regulation, resilience, and positive behaviour

  • Implementing individual support strategies and behaviour plans

  • Assisting pupils to engage with learning and build confidence

  • Working collaboratively with teachers, SENCOs, and pastoral staff

  • Supporting safeguarding and promoting student wellbeing

  • Helping to maintain a calm, consistent, and inclusive classroom environment

The Ideal Candidate

  • Experience supporting children or young people with mental health, SEMH, SEN, or behavioural needs

  • A calm, patient, and empathetic approach

  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills

  • Ability to manage challenging behaviour positively and consistently

  • Relevant qualifications or training in mental health, psychology, counselling, youth work, or SEN (desirable but not essential)

  • A genuine passion for making a difference in young people's lives
