Mental Health Teaching Assistant
Location: Corby, Northamptonshire
Contract: Full-time / Long-term (term-time only)
Start Date: ASAP (or negotiable)
Salary: Competitive, dependent on experience
Tradewind Recruitment is working with a supportive and forward-thinking specialist education setting in the Corby area to recruit a Mental Health Teaching Assistant. This is an excellent opportunity for a compassionate and resilient individual who is passionate about supporting young people with social, emotional, and mental health needs.
The Role:
As a Mental Health Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with students who require additional emotional and behavioural support, helping them to engage positively with learning and school life. You will collaborate with teaching staff, pastoral teams, and external professionals to provide consistent and nurturing support.
Key Responsibilities:
Provide 1:1 and small group support for pupils with mental health and emotional needs
Support students with anxiety, low mood, trauma-related behaviours, and emotional regulation
Assist with behaviour management and the implementation of individual support plans
Promote a safe, calm, and inclusive learning environment
Build positive, trusting relationships with pupils to support wellbeing and progress
Work closely with teachers, SEN staff, and pastoral teams
The Ideal Candidate:
Experience supporting children or young people with mental health or SEMH needs
Backgrounds in psychology, counselling, youth work, mental health support, or similar are highly desirable
Calm, patient, and empathetic approach
Strong communication and teamwork skills
Ability to manage challenging behaviour positively and consistently
Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to apply)
