Location: Clitheroe, Lancashire (BB7 area) Salary: £27,000 - £32,000 per annum (Dependent on experience/qualifications) Contract: Full-Time, Temp to Perm Start Date: ASAP
The Role: The Best Classroom Has No Walls
Are you an outdoor enthusiast who believes that nature is the best teacher? Our Alternative Provision (AP) in Clitheroe is looking for an Outdoor Education Instructor to join our team.
This is a Temp to Perm position, offering a unique "try before you buy" period where you can integrate into our school culture before transitioning to a permanent contract. You will be working with young people (Primary or Secondary) who have SEMH (Social, Emotional, and Mental Health) needs and SEND, using the local Ribble Valley landscape to re-engage them with learning.
Key Responsibilities
Outdoor Delivery: Lead sessions in bushcraft, orienteering, horticulture, or outdoor PE to help students build confidence and resilience.
SEMH Mentoring: Use the outdoors as a therapeutic tool to support students with complex emotional needs or an EHCP.
Positive Behaviour Management: Manage classroom dynamics in an open-air setting, using de-escalation and trauma-informed practice.
Preston/Clitheroe Community Impact: Utilise the local environment to teach life skills, teamwork, and environmental stewardship.
What We Are Looking For
We welcome applications from Qualified Outdoor Educators (Level 3 Forest School, Mountain Leader, etc.) and Unqualified candidates with significant "real world" outdoor experience.
Experience: Background in youth work, sports coaching, the armed forces, or outdoor centers is highly valued.
Character: Resilience is key and you will be outdoors in all Lancashire weathers! You need a calm head and a passion for helping "hard to reach" learners.
Specialism: An understanding of SEND/SEMH and a desire to work in an Alternative Provision (AP) setting.
Reliability: As this is a Temp to Perm role, we want someone looking for a long-term home in a supportive school.
