Transform Lives Using Your Psychology Degree

Are you a Psychology Graduate living in or near Blackburn? Do you have a deep interest in social-emotional development and a desire to support young people facing complex mental health challenges?

We are looking for a resilient, high-energy graduate to join our multidisciplinary team. This role provides invaluable "front-line" experience for anyone pursuing a career in Educational Psychology, Forensic Psychology, or Mental Health Nursing.

The Role: Supporting KS2 to KS4

Working within an SEMH (Social, Emotional, and Mental Health) environment requires a unique blend of empathy and firm boundaries. You will support students across Key Stage 2, 3, and 4 who may have attachment disorders, trauma-related needs, or ADHD.

  • Emotional Regulation: Use your understanding of psychological theory to help pupils manage "crisis" moments.
  • Academic Mentoring: Break down barriers to learning for students who have been disengaged from mainstream education.
  • Nurture Groups: Lead small-group interventions focused on social skills and self-esteem.
  • Restorative Practice: Work alongside the school's therapy team to implement long-term behavioural strategies.

Why This Blackburn School?

  • Specialist Environment: A smaller-than-average school where every child is known by name.
  • Career Progression: Many of our graduates move on to funded Doctorate programs or internal pastoral leadership roles.
  • Training: Full "Team Teach" (Positive Handling) and Trauma-Informed Practice training provided.
  • Location: Easily accessible via the M65 and local Blackburn public transport links.

Candidate Requirements

  • Degree: 2:1 or higher in Psychology (or a related Social Science).
  • Character: Resilience is key. You must be able to remain calm under pressure and not take challenging behaviour personally.
  • Experience: Some experience with youth work, coaching, or SEN is preferred, but your attitude and personality are what matter most.
  • DBS: An enhanced DBS check is required (we can assist with this).
