Year 1 Teaching Assistant | Primary School | Blackburn (BB1)

Are you a dedicated educator looking for a rewarding role in Blackburn? We are seeking a proactive Year 1 Teaching Assistant to join a friendly primary school team in the BB1 area.

This position starts immediately after the Easter holidays and will run until the end of the academic year, offering a fantastic opportunity to support young learners in their transition to Key Stage 1.

The Role

Working in a Year 1 classroom in Blackburn, you will be essential in helping pupils bridge the gap between EYFS and more formal learning. Your role involves supporting the Class Teacher in delivering a creative curriculum while ensuring every child feels confident and supported.

  • Location: Blackburn, Lancashire (Postcode: BB1).

  • Start Date: After the Easter holidays (April 2026).

  • End Date: July 2026 (End of Summer Term).

  • Working Hours: 8:45 am - 3:30 pm.

  • Break: 30-minute dinner break.

Key Responsibilities

  • Phonics & Literacy: Deliver small group interventions using schemes such as Read Write Inc. or Letters and Sounds.

  • Classroom Support: Assist with the setup of learning stations and manage classroom resources.

  • Pupil Progress: Work 1:1 with students who require additional support in numeracy and literacy.

  • Supervision: Monitor students during the 30-minute lunch period to ensure a safe and happy environment.

Requirements

  • Experience: Previous experience in a UK Primary School (Year 1 or EYFS experience is a plus).

  • Qualifications: Level 2 or 3 Teaching Assistant qualification.

  • Local Knowledge: Ideally based in or able to commute easily to the BB1 area of Blackburn.

  • Safeguarding: A valid Enhanced DBS on the Update Service is essential (we can assist with a new application if required).
