Reception Teaching Assistant

Location: Wigan

Start Date: ASAP

Duration: Long-term (until July 2026), with potential for September extension

Salary: £94 - £100 per day (depending on experience)

Tradewind Recruitment is currently seeking an experienced and nurturing Teaching Assistant to join a friendly 2-form entry primary school in Wigan. This position is to cover a long-term sickness, starting immediately and running through to the end of the academic year, with a strong possibility of a permanent or extended contract in September for the right candidate.

The Role

Working within a collaborative Reception team, you will play a vital role in supporting the transition and development of the school's youngest learners. Your responsibilities will include:

Supporting the Class Teacher in delivering the EYFS curriculum.

Leading small group activities focusing on Phonics (Read Write Inc. or similar), early literacy, and numeracy.

Observations and contributing to student profiles/assessments.

Providing a safe, engaging, and inclusive learning environment through indoor and outdoor play.

Supporting pupils with diverse needs, ensuring every child thrives.

This Wigan-based primary school is known for its welcoming "family" feel and its commitment to staff wellbeing. As a 2-form entry school, you will benefit from working alongside another Reception TA and teacher, allowing for shared planning and support.

Requirements

Level 2 or 3 Teaching Assistant qualification (or equivalent).

Proven experience working within an EYFS or Nursery setting.

A deep understanding of the EYFS framework.

A patient, creative, and energetic approach to learning.

An enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or be willing to apply for a new one).

Legal right to work in the UK.
