Mental Health Teaching Assistant - SEMH School

Pay: £92.56 - £97 per day (depending on experience)

Are you passionate about supporting young people with social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) needs? Tradewind Recruitment is currently seeking a dedicated and resilient Mental Health Teaching Assistant to work in a specialist SEMH school in Corby.

The Role:
As a Mental Health Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with teaching staff and pastoral teams to support students both in and out of the classroom. You will help create a safe, structured, and nurturing environment that enables students to engage with learning and develop positive coping strategies.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide 1:1 and small group support for students with SEMH needs

  • Assist in managing challenging behaviour using de-escalation techniques

  • Support students' emotional regulation and wellbeing

  • Build strong, trusting relationships with pupils

  • Work collaboratively with teachers, SENCOs, and external professionals

  • Encourage engagement in lessons and promote positive learning behaviours

Ideal Candidate:

  • Experience working with children or young people with SEMH, behavioural needs, or mental health challenges

  • Background in education, youth work, care, or psychology (desirable but not essential)

  • Calm, patient, and resilient approach

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills

  • Ability to remain composed in challenging situations

  • A genuine passion for supporting vulnerable learners
