Job Description

Youth Worker - Classroom Support | Blackpool Secondary

Urgent Start | Temp-to-Perm | Full-Time (Mon-Fri)

Overview

Are you a natural at building rapport with teenagers? Do you have the "street-smart" empathy needed to support young people through the challenges of secondary school? We are seeking a Youth Worker to step into the classroom at a vibrant Blackpool Secondary School.

This isn't your standard TA role. We need someone who can speak the students' language, act as a mentor, and bridge the gap between home, the community, and the classroom. This is a Temp-to-Perm opportunity for someone looking to build a career in education or social support.

Key Responsibilities

  • Mentoring & Engagement: Working 1:1 or with small groups of students who are disengaged or struggling with the transition to secondary life.

  • Behavioural Advocacy: Helping students manage their emotions and de-escalate conflicts before they disrupt learning.

  • Classroom Presence: Supporting the teacher by keeping "high-energy" students on task and focused.

  • Liaison: Acting as a trusted adult for pupils, helping them navigate social challenges, attendance issues, and self-esteem.

Requirements (Essential)

  • Personality: You must be approachable, firm but fair, and have a thick skin.

  • Experience: Previous experience in youth clubs, sports coaching, outreach work, or supporting young people with challenging behaviours.

  • DBS: Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willing to apply for one immediately).

  • Commitment: Looking for a long-term, permanent role (starting as a temp trial).

What the Role Offers

  • Contract: Temp-to-Perm. A chance to prove your value and secure a permanent school contract.

  • Pay: Competitive daily/hourly rates, paid weekly.

  • Impact: The opportunity to be the "one person who gets it" for a struggling student.

  • Hours: Standard school hours (approx. 8:30 AM - 3:30 PM).
