A specialist SEMH provision in Milton Keynes is seeking committed and compassionate SEMH Teaching Assistants to join their team from September 2026. This setting supports students who require additional emotional and behavioural support to access education, helping them build confidence, resilience, and positive relationships.
This is more than a teaching assistant role-it's an opportunity to become a trusted adult, positive role model, and advocate for young people who need support to overcome barriers to learning.
Your Role Will Involve:
Supporting students on a 1:1 basis and in small groups with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs
Building positive, trusting relationships that help students feel safe, understood, and engaged
Supporting pupils to manage emotions, regulate behaviour, and develop coping strategies
Working alongside teachers, pastoral staff, and external professionals to implement personalised support plans
Using de-escalation techniques and restorative approaches to promote positive behaviour
Encouraging participation in learning and helping students re-engage with education
Contributing to a nurturing, structured environment where students can thrive academically and emotionally
We're Looking For Someone Who:
✔ Is passionate about supporting vulnerable young people and making a meaningful difference
✔ Demonstrates patience, resilience, and emotional intelligence
✔ Has experience working with children or young people in education, youth work, care, sports coaching, or support settings (desirable but not essential)
✔ Understands, or is willing to learn about, trauma-informed practice and SEMH support strategies
✔ Can remain calm and consistent when managing challenging behaviour
✔ Works effectively as part of a dedicated multidisciplinary team
