Mental Health Teaching Assistant
Location: Corby, Northamptonshire
Start Date: September 2026 | Full-Time | Temporary to Permanent

We are working in partnership with a welcoming and inclusive school in Corby that is seeking a dedicated Mental Health Teaching Assistant to join their team from September 2026. This full-time, temporary to permanent opportunity involves supporting pupils with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, helping them overcome barriers to learning and reach their full potential within a nurturing educational environment.

About the Role:

  • Provide one-to-one and small-group support for pupils with SEMH needs, anxiety, emotional regulation difficulties, trauma-related experiences, or behavioural challenges

  • Build positive, trusting relationships that promote confidence, resilience, and emotional wellbeing

  • Support pupils both inside and outside the classroom, encouraging engagement with learning and positive social interactions

  • Work alongside teachers, the SENCO, pastoral staff, and external professionals to implement individual support strategies

  • Assist with targeted interventions that promote emotional literacy, self-esteem, and positive behaviour

  • Help maintain a safe, calm, and inclusive learning environment where every child feels valued and supported

  • Monitor pupil progress and maintain accurate records in line with school policies and safeguarding procedures

  • Contribute to the school's wider commitment to promoting positive mental health and wellbeing

We're Looking For:

  • Experience working with children or young people with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs in education, youth work, care, residential settings, or similar environments

  • A patient, compassionate, and resilient approach with the ability to remain calm under pressure

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build strong relationships with pupils, staff, and families

  • A good understanding of safeguarding and child protection procedures

  • Relevant qualifications or training in psychology, education, youth work, counselling, mental health, or a related field are desirable but not essential

  • A genuine passion for supporting young people and helping them succeed both academically and emotionally
