Unqualified English Teacher - Northampton

Location: Northampton, Northamptonshire
Start Date: September 2026
Contract: Full-Time | Long-Term (with potential for permanent opportunity)
Salary: £100-£160 per day (dependent on experience and school support)

We are working alongside a successful and welcoming secondary school in Northampton that is looking to appoint an enthusiastic Unqualified English Teacher to join their English department from September 2026.

You will work alongside experienced teaching staff, receive guidance and support, and gain the practical experience needed to take the next step in your education career.

The Role:

As an Unqualified English Teacher, you will support students across Key Stages 3 and 4 by delivering engaging English lessons that encourage creativity, critical thinking, and a love of language and literature.

You will play an important role in helping students strengthen their literacy skills, build confidence, and achieve their academic goals while developing your own teaching practice within a supportive department.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Plan and deliver engaging English lessons across KS3 and KS4

  • Support students in improving their reading, writing, communication, and analytical skills

  • Encourage students to explore literature and develop confidence in sharing their ideas

  • Create a positive, structured, and inclusive classroom environment

  • Adapt teaching methods to support students with different abilities and learning needs

  • Work closely with experienced teachers to develop classroom management and teaching strategies

  • Provide guidance and encouragement to help pupils reach their potential

  • Take part in departmental activities and contribute to the wider school community

About You:

  • A degree in English, English Literature, or a related subject is desirable, or excellent subject knowledge in English

  • Experience working with young people is beneficial but not essential

  • A confident communicator who can engage and motivate students

  • Enthusiastic, adaptable, and committed to personal development

  • Passionate about supporting students and making a positive impact

  • Interested in pursuing a future career in teaching through routes such as PGCE, SCITT, or teacher apprenticeships

  • Enhanced DBS on the Update Service or willingness to obtain one
