Tradewind Recruitment are currently recruiting on behalf of a specialist secondary SEN school in West London for an enthusiastic and experienced Nurture Teacher to teach a Year 7 class from September 2026.

This is an excellent opportunity for a qualified teacher who understands that successful teaching within an SEMH environment is about much more than delivering lessons. You will need to be able to build strong relationships, create a calm and structured classroom and help pupils develop the confidence and emotional skills needed to engage with education.

The Role

You will take responsibility for a Year 7 Nurture class, delivering a broad and engaging programme designed around the individual needs of pupils.

The successful candidate will be confident teaching across a range of subjects, with particular importance placed on English and Maths.

You will work closely with support staff and the wider SEN team to provide a consistent, nurturing and highly structured learning environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan and deliver engaging lessons to a Year 7 Nurture class.
  • Teach across the curriculum with a strong focus on English and Maths.
  • Differentiate learning to meet individual SEN needs.
  • Build positive, trusting relationships with pupils.
  • Support pupils with emotional regulation and engagement.
  • Use positive behaviour strategies and restorative approaches.
  • Maintain a calm, consistent and structured classroom environment.
  • Monitor pupil progress and adapt teaching accordingly.
  • Work closely with TAs, the SEND team and wider school staff.
  • Support pupils in developing independence, confidence and resilience.

The Ideal Candidate

The successful candidate will:

  • Hold QTS - essential.
  • Have previous experience working in an SEN school - essential.
  • Have strong experience working with pupils with SEMH needs - essential.
  • Be confident teaching English and Maths to Year 7 pupils.
  • Have experience working within a Nurture, SEMH or specialist setting.
  • Be highly skilled in behaviour management and relationship building.
  • Understand trauma-informed and nurturing approaches to education.
  • Be calm, patient and consistent.
  • Have high expectations while recognising and responding to individual pupil needs.
  • Be passionate about helping young people who have struggled within mainstream education.
