Tradewind Recruitment are currently looking for an experienced Learning Difficulties Specialist Teacher to join a small specialist school attached to a residential home in Northamptonshire.

This is an exciting opportunity for a teacher who is passionate about working with young people with additional needs and enjoys creating engaging, practical and highly individualised learning experiences.

The Role

You will be teaching a small class of just five secondary-aged students, supported by a Teaching Assistant and HLTA. The pupils have severe learning difficulties (SLD) and require a highly personalised approach to learning, communication and emotional regulation.

The curriculum is centred around sensory-based learning, communication and developing independence, with a strong focus on meeting each pupil's individual needs and abilities.

You will be responsible for planning and delivering engaging lessons, assessing progress and adapting learning to ensure every pupil can access the curriculum and make meaningful progress.

The role will include:

• Planning and delivering personalised lessons for secondary-aged pupils with SLD.
• Adapting the curriculum to meet a wide range of learning and communication needs.
• Using sensory-based and practical approaches to engage pupils in learning.
• Supporting communication through approaches such as PECS, Makaton and other AAC strategies.
• Developing pupils' independence, confidence and life skills.
• Supporting pupils who may become dysregulated and implementing appropriate strategies to help them regulate.
• Monitoring, assessing and recording pupil progress.
• Working closely with Teaching Assistants, the HLTA and wider staff team.
• Building positive relationships with pupils and creating a calm, safe and engaging learning environment.
• Working with families and other professionals where appropriate to support individual pupil needs.

About You

The school is looking for a teacher who:

• Has qualified teacher status or relevant teaching experience.
• Has previous experience working with pupils with SEN, SLD or complex learning needs.
• Is confident adapting teaching and learning to individual pupil needs.
• Has a calm, patient and nurturing approach.
• Understands the importance of communication, sensory regulation and emotional wellbeing.
• Is confident managing behaviour in a positive and consistent way.
• Is creative and able to make learning engaging and meaningful.
• Works well as part of a small, close-knit team.
• Is committed to helping pupils develop their independence and achieve their potential.
• Has a full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle.

Experience with PECS, Makaton, AAC, sensory-based learning or other specialist communication approaches would be highly beneficial.
