About the Role

Tradewind Recruitment is currently seeking enthusiastic, qualified and experienced Physical Education (PE) Teachers to work in secondary schools across Lewisham, South East London.

We have a range of flexible daily supply and long-term teaching opportunities available, offering the chance to work in supportive school environments while delivering engaging and inclusive PE lessons to secondary-aged students.

This is an excellent opportunity for experienced teachers looking for flexible supply work, as well as those interested in securing longer-term placements.

Key Responsibilities

• Plan and deliver engaging, high-quality PE lessons in line with the national curriculum and school requirements.
• Teach a range of sports and physical activities to students across Key Stages 3 and 4, with Key Stage 5 teaching where appropriate.
• Promote physical fitness, teamwork, sportsmanship and positive student participation.
• Maintain effective classroom and behaviour management in accordance with school policies.
• Adapt teaching methods to meet the needs of students with different abilities and learning requirements.
• Ensure the health, safety and wellbeing of students during practical activities.
• Assess student progress and provide constructive feedback where required.
• Work collaboratively with school staff and contribute positively to the wider school community.

Essential Requirements

To be considered for this position, applicants must have:

• Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) recognised in England.
• A relevant degree, ideally in Physical Education, Sports Science or a related subject.
• Previous teaching experience within a secondary school setting.
• Strong subject knowledge and the ability to deliver engaging PE lessons.
• Effective classroom and behaviour management skills.
• Excellent communication, organisation and interpersonal skills.
• A commitment to safeguarding, inclusion and promoting student wellbeing.

Applicants must also be willing to undergo the relevant safeguarding and pre-employment checks, including an enhanced DBS check and satisfactory professional references, in accordance with statutory requirements.

Pay and Progression

Daily Supply Teaching: £150-£170 per day

The daily supply rate offered will depend on relevant teaching experience, qualifications, suitability for the assignment and the responsibilities involved.

Teachers may be considered for rates towards the higher end of the advertised range through:

• Relevant Experience: Demonstrating substantial secondary school teaching experience, particularly within PE.
• Proven Performance: Building a positive track record through successful supply placements, strong classroom management and consistently effective teaching.
• Additional Responsibilities: Taking on agreed duties beyond standard daily supply expectations, where these form part of the assignment and justify a higher rate.
• Professional Development: Developing additional skills and experience that support progression into more demanding or longer-term teaching assignments.

Progression towards the higher daily rate is subject to the requirements of available assignments and agreement with Tradewind Recruitment. An increase in pay is not automatic or guaranteed.

Long-Term Teaching Contracts

For suitable long-term placements, pay will be in line with the applicable Inner London Teachers' Pay Scales, with the specific rate determined by relevant experience, the nature of the placement and any additional responsibilities.
