About the Role

Tradewind Recruitment is seeking a qualified and experienced Sociology Teacher to work in secondary schools across Lewisham, South East London.

We have opportunities for enthusiastic and dedicated teachers seeking flexible daily supply work, as well as those interested in longer-term teaching placements.

The successful candidate will have strong subject knowledge, effective classroom management skills and the ability to deliver engaging Sociology lessons that support students' academic progress.

Key Responsibilities

• Plan and deliver engaging Sociology lessons in line with the school's curriculum and requirements.
• Create a positive, inclusive and supportive learning environment.
• Assess and monitor student progress, providing constructive feedback where required.
• Maintain effective classroom management and promote positive behaviour.
• Adapt teaching approaches to meet the needs of students with varying abilities and learning requirements.
• Work collaboratively with teaching staff and school leadership teams.
• Follow school policies, including safeguarding and child protection procedures.

Essential Requirements

To be considered for this position, applicants must have:

• Qualified Teacher Status (QTS).
• A relevant university degree, ideally in Sociology or a closely related subject.
• Previous teaching experience within a secondary school setting.
• Strong subject knowledge and the ability to teach Sociology effectively.
• Excellent communication, organisational and classroom management skills.
• A commitment to safeguarding, equality, diversity and inclusion.

All appointments are subject to satisfactory pre-employment checks, including an enhanced DBS check with children's barred list information where applicable, identity and right-to-work verification, and suitable references.

Pay and Career Progression

Daily Supply Teaching: £150-£170 per day

The daily rate offered will depend on relevant teaching experience, qualifications, the requirements of the assignment and the responsibilities involved.

Teachers may be considered for the higher end of the advertised pay range through:

• Relevant teaching experience: Demonstrating substantial experience teaching Sociology or related subjects within secondary education.
• Proven classroom performance: Showing effective classroom management, strong subject knowledge and consistently high teaching standards.
• Professional development and progression: Building experience through supply assignments and demonstrating the skills required to undertake more demanding placements.
• Additional responsibilities: Taking on duties beyond standard daily supply teaching, where agreed in advance, such as lesson planning, assessment, pastoral responsibilities or additional curriculum-related duties.

Progression towards the higher rate is subject to the requirements of available assignments, individual suitability and agreement with Tradewind Recruitment. An increase in pay is not automatic or guaranteed.

Long-Term Teaching Opportunities

For suitable long-term teaching placements, pay will be aligned with the applicable Inner London Teachers' Pay Scales, taking into account relevant teaching experience, the nature of the assignment and any additional responsibilities.

Specific rates and contractual arrangements will be confirmed before an assignment is accepted.
