About the Role
We are seeking a resilient, empathetic, and dedicated 1:1 Pastoral Support Worker to join our supportive team at an established SEMH (Social, Emotional, and Mental Health) school in the heart of Lytham.
In this role, you will work on a 1:1 basis with a specific student who requires targeted emotional, social, and behavioural regulation support. Your primary objective is to act as a positive role model, break down barriers to learning, and help the student feel safe, understood, and equipped to access the curriculum.
Key Responsibilities
- 1:1 Mentoring & Support: Build a trusting, professional relationship with the student, providing consistent emotional and pastoral guidance throughout the school day.
- Behaviour & Emotional Regulation: Implement Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) plans, risk assessments, and de-escalation strategies to manage crisis situations calmly and effectively.
- Academic & Curriculum Access: Assist the student inside and outside the classroom, adapting tasks alongside teaching staff to encourage engagement and independence.
- Progress Tracking: Monitor and record behavioural and emotional milestones, maintaining accurate logs (e.g., CPOMS or internal tracking systems).
- Stakeholder Collaboration: Liaise closely with the SENCo, teachers, safeguarding leads, and external mental health professionals to ensure a wraparound support network.
- Family Liaison: Help maintain positive communication channels between home and school under the direction of the Senior Leadership Team.
Person Specification (What We Are Looking For)
- Experience: Previous experience working with children or young people who display challenging behaviour, SEMH needs, or trauma backgrounds (Youth work, residential care, sports coaching, or school settings background welcome).
- Location: Must be based in or easily able to commute to Lytham and surrounding areas.
- Skills: High emotional intelligence, exceptional patience, resilience under pressure, and robust conflict-resolution skills.
- Mindset: A firm belief in inclusive education, restorative practices, and unconditional positive regard for young people.
- Qualifications: Relevant childcare, youth work, psychology, or teaching assistant qualifications (Level 2 or 3) are desirable, though a strong, resilient attitude and relevant life/work experience are equally valued.
- Compliance: Must hold a valid Enhanced DBS certificate registered on the Update Service (or be willing to undergo expedited checks) and provide satisfactory references.
What We Offer
- A welcoming, supportive leadership team and specialised staff committed to staff wellbeing.
- Ongoing professional development and training opportunities (e.g., de-escalation, trauma-informed practice).
- A rewarding environment where you can truly make a profound, daily difference in a young person's life.
