We're working with a group of inclusive and forward-thinking secondary schools in Northampton who are looking for dedicated School Librarians to join their teams from October 2025.

What Does a School Librarian Do?

As a School Librarian, you'll be more than just a guardian of books - you'll be a literacy champion, a research guide, and a vital support for students and staff alike. You'll play a central role in promoting independent learning, improving literacy levels, and nurturing a lifelong love of reading.

Key Duties Will Include:

• Managing the day-to-day running of the school library

• Supporting students in accessing and using library resources

• Organising and maintaining the library catalogue and lending system

• Promoting reading for pleasure through book clubs, displays, and author events

• Assisting with research and resource provision for staff and students

• Encouraging a calm, welcoming and inclusive environment for study and reading

• Supporting school-wide literacy and learning initiatives

Who We're Looking For:

• Previous experience in a library, education, or similar environment is a plus

• A passion for reading, books, and student learning

• Excellent organisational and IT skills (especially for cataloguing and online resources)

• Strong communication skills and the ability to engage positively with young people

• A calm, supportive, and proactive presence

• Knowledge of children's and young adult literature is desirable
