Student Welfare Officer - Secondary School - Kettering

Location: Kettering, Northamptonshire
Contract: Full-time, long-term (with potential for permanent placement)
Start Date: ASAP or January 2026
Salary: £90 - £110 per day (depending on experience)

Tradewind Recruitment are seeking a compassionate and dedicated Student Welfare Officer to join a thriving secondary school in the Kettering area. This is an exciting opportunity for someone passionate about supporting young people's wellbeing and helping them overcome barriers to learning.

The Role

As a Student Welfare Officer, you will play a key role in promoting and safeguarding the wellbeing of students across the school. Working closely with pastoral leaders, SEN staff, and external agencies, you'll provide practical and emotional support to ensure that every student can achieve their full potential.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Supporting students with attendance, behaviour, and emotional wellbeing concerns

  • Building strong relationships with pupils, families, and staff

  • Delivering targeted interventions to improve engagement and attendance

  • Monitoring safeguarding concerns and maintaining accurate records

  • Liaising with external agencies where necessary to support students' welfare

The Ideal Candidate

We're looking for someone who:

  • Has experience working with children or young people in an educational, youth work, or social care setting

  • Demonstrates excellent communication and interpersonal skills

  • Can remain calm, empathetic, and professional in challenging situations

  • Has a good understanding of safeguarding and child protection procedures

  • Is organised, proactive, and committed to improving outcomes for students
