Behaviour Mentor

Location: Hammersmith & Fulham, West London (near Putney Bridge Station)
Contract: January 2026 - July 2026
Hours: 8:30am - 3:00pm, Monday to Friday (term time only)
Setting: Primary SEMH Provision | EYFS - Year 4 | Small Classes (5-8 pupils)


About the Role

A specialist primary SEMH provision in Hammersmith & Fulham is seeking a dedicated Behaviour Mentor / Behaviour Support Teaching Assistant to join their team from January 2026. This role focuses on supporting pupils in EYFS to Year 4 who present with social, emotional, and behavioural needs, helping them to regulate their emotions, manage behaviour, and successfully access a mainstream-style curriculum.

Pupils are taught in small, nurturing classes of 5-8 children, allowing for highly personalised support. You will play a key role in helping children feel safe, understood, and ready to learn.

This role is ideal for experienced Behaviour TAs, Youth Workers, or those with strong behaviour support backgrounds looking to transition into education.


Key Responsibilities

  • Supporting pupils with SEMH and behavioural needs across EYFS-Year 4

  • Helping children to develop emotional regulation and self-management skills

  • Implementing consistent behaviour strategies and routines

  • Supporting pupils during moments of dysregulation using calm, trauma-informed approaches

  • Providing 1:1 and small-group behaviour and learning support

  • Encouraging engagement with a mainstream-style curriculum

  • Building strong, trusting relationships with pupils

  • Implementing behaviour support plans and risk assessments

  • Working closely with teachers, therapists, and pastoral staff

  • Promoting positive behaviour, wellbeing, and inclusion

  • Upholding safeguarding and child protection procedures


The Ideal Candidate

You will be calm, patient, resilient, and passionate about helping children succeed emotionally and socially. You will be confident supporting children who present with challenging behaviour and will understand that behaviour is communication.

Essential Requirements

  • Proven experience supporting children with behavioural needs

  • Experience in SEMH, SEN, PRU, alternative provision, or similar settings

  • Strong behaviour management and de-escalation skills

  • Understanding of trauma-informed and restorative approaches

  • Ability to remain calm under pressure

  • Enhanced DBS (or willingness to apply)

  • Right to work in the UK
