Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL)

Full-time | 5 days per week
Secondary Schools across Merton

We are seeking an experienced and committed Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) to work full-time across a range of welcoming and inclusive secondary schools in the London Borough of Merton.

This is an excellent opportunity for a safeguarding professional who is passionate about student welfare and wants to make a meaningful impact within supportive school environments that genuinely value staff development and progression.

The Role

As the Designated Safeguarding Lead, you will:

  • Take lead responsibility for safeguarding and child protection across the school

  • Manage and respond to safeguarding concerns in line with statutory guidance

  • Work closely with senior leaders, staff, parents, and external agencies

  • Maintain accurate safeguarding records and ensure compliance with policies

  • Support and advise staff on safeguarding matters and best practice

  • Contribute to creating a safe, nurturing, and inclusive school culture

The Ideal Candidate

  • Holds current or recent experience as a Designated Safeguarding Lead (or Deputy DSL ready to step up)

  • Strong knowledge of Keeping Children Safe in Education and safeguarding legislation

  • Confident working with vulnerable young people and complex cases

  • Excellent communication, organisation, and record-keeping skills

  • Able to work proactively, sensitively, and with discretion
