School Caretaker

Location: Merton, South West London
School Type: Mainstream Secondary School
Contract: Full-time / Term-time plus some holiday working
Start Date: ASAP
Salary: Competitive, dependent on experience

We are seeking a reliable, practical, and hardworking School Caretaker to join our friendly secondary school in Merton.

This is a vital role in ensuring the school site is safe, secure, and well maintained for students, staff, and visitors.

Key Responsibilities

  • Ensure the security of the school premises, including opening and locking up

  • Carry out general maintenance, repairs, and basic DIY tasks

  • Maintain a clean, safe, and tidy school environment

  • Support health and safety procedures, including fire safety checks

  • Set up rooms for lessons, events, and examinations

  • Liaise with contractors and report maintenance issues as required

  • Support with site management during school events and lettings

The Ideal Candidate Will

  • Have previous caretaking, site management, or maintenance experience (preferred)

  • Be practical, proactive, and reliable

  • Have a good understanding of health and safety procedures

  • Be able to work independently and as part of a team

  • Be flexible and willing to support the wider school community
