Functional Skills Teacher - Alternative Provision
Location: Wellingborough, Northamptonshire
Start Date: April 2026

We are working with a specialist Alternative Provision in Wellingborough that is seeking a committed Functional Skills Teacher to join their team on a full-time, permanent basis from April 2026. The provision supports secondary-aged students who have been excluded from mainstream education, providing a structured and supportive environment to help them re-engage and succeed.
In this role, you will play a vital part in delivering Functional Skills in English and/or Maths, supporting students to gain recognised qualifications while building resilience, confidence, and a positive attitude towards learning.
Key Responsibilities:
- Deliver Functional Skills lessons in English, Maths, or a combination of both (Entry Level to Level 2)
- Plan and adapt lessons to meet a range of abilities and learning needs
- Prepare students for assessments and support them in achieving qualifications
- Use practical, real-world examples to make learning relevant and accessible
- Track student progress and provide clear, constructive feedback
- Deliver targeted interventions to support individual learners
- Maintain a calm, structured, and positive classroom environment
- Work collaboratively with colleagues to support students' wider development
The Ideal Candidate:
- Holds QTS/QTLS or has strong experience delivering Functional Skills
- Strong subject knowledge in English, Maths, or both
- Experience working with students with SEMH needs or challenging behaviour
- Able to deliver engaging, practical lessons that motivate learners
- Patient, adaptable, and confident in behaviour management
- Committed to helping students overcome barriers to education
- Understanding of safeguarding practices (training can be provided)
