SEN Teaching Assistant - Thornton-Cleveleys - September 2026 Start

Position: SEN Teaching Assistant (Full-Time)

Location: Thornton-Cleveleys, Lancashire

Start Date: September 2026 Contract: Term-Time, Temporary

Hours: Monday - Friday | 08:30 - 15:30 (32.5 Hours Per Week)

Pay: £14.25 - £15.00 per hour (Based on experience)

A Thornton-Cleveleys based Primary Academy is seeking dedicated Special Support Assistants (SSAs) in preparation for the September term. This academy is an inclusive community that welcomes children of all abilities and backgrounds. They offer a fantastic faculty environment with access to professional staff training, including Phonics, INSET days, and First Aid.

This is a brilliant opportunity to work closely with students with mild Special Educational Needs (SEN), helping them to overcome barriers and reach their full potential.

About the Role

As a Teaching Assistant, you will play a vital role in supporting the learning and well-being of pupils with a range of needs, including:

  • Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs

  • Global Learning Delay (GLD)

  • Cognitive Support needs

  • Dyspraxia and Dyslexia

  • ADHD and Autism

Your Responsibilities

  • Working under the guidance of the Class Teacher and SENCO to implement individualised support plans.

  • Providing one-to-one and small group support to students, both inside and outside the classroom.

  • Adapting learning materials and activities to meet individual requirements.

  • Supporting students with their social and emotional development, promoting positive behaviour and self-regulation.

  • Assisting with personal care where necessary (with appropriate training and sensitivity).

  • Observing and reporting on student progress and any emerging concerns.

About You

  • Passionate: A genuine desire to work with children with special educational needs.

  • Qualified: Hold a relevant qualification (e.g., Level 2 or 3 Teaching Assistant qualification) or have equivalent experience.

  • Communicative: A strong communicator with excellent interpersonal skills.

  • Reliable: Punctual and committed to a full-time Monday-Friday schedule.

  • Knowledgeable: A good understanding of child development and learning. Experience with SEND is desirable but not essential.
