The school

This client 11-16 secondary school in Wigan is known for its positive, caring ethos and high expectations. The school's culture is built around a clear set of shared expectations often referred to as "the Hawkley Way", underpinned by a fundamental principle of mutual respect ("treat other people with respect to be respected in turn"). Leaders and staff place strong emphasis on effective learning conditions, pastoral support, academic progress and inclusive opportunities for pupils to thrive.

The Religious Education department

The RE / Religious Studies curriculum supports pupils to become thoughtful, respectful and well-informed, building skills in explanation, evaluation and balanced argument. At KS3, students develop core knowledge of key concepts (belief, practice, authority, community and identity) and learn to discuss big questions in a structured, inclusive way. At KS4, the curriculum explores a range of theological and ethical themes such as Christian and Islamic beliefs and practices, issues of life and death, relationships and families, good and evil, and human rights, helping pupils to connect learning to modern Britain and the wider world.

  • Strong behaviour management and the ability to build positive relationships quickly in a long-term supply role.
  • Confidence delivering lessons that encourage discussion, critical thinking and respectful debate.
  • An enhanced DBS on the update service (or willingness to obtain one through Tradewind).
  • A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.
