Special Needs Teaching Assistant (Full-Time)

💷 Salary: £90-£100 per day (depending on experience)

Tradewind Recruitment is currently working with a welcoming and inclusive school in Oldham that is looking to appoint a committed Special Needs Teaching Assistant to support four pupils with complex needs and challenging behaviour, including two non-verbal students.

This rewarding full-time role offers the opportunity to make a real impact by helping pupils successfully transition from part-time to full-time education within a supportive and structured environment.

The Role

As a Special Needs Teaching Assistant, you will:

  • Provide one-to-one and small-group support for pupils with a range of additional needs
  • Support the delivery of personalised learning and behaviour strategies
  • Work closely with teachers, SEN staff, and external professionals to implement tailored support plans
  • Help create a calm, safe, and engaging classroom environment
  • Encourage pupils' social, emotional, and academic development
  • Build positive relationships that promote confidence, independence, and participation in learning

The Ideal Candidate Will Have

  • Previous experience supporting children with SEN and/or challenging behaviour
  • Confidence working with non-verbal pupils
  • Knowledge of communication methods such as PECS or Makaton (desirable)
  • Strong behaviour management skills and a patient, consistent approach
  • A compassionate, resilient, and adaptable attitude
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills
