Tradewind Recruitment is proud to be working with a successful secondary school in Northampton seeking an inspiring Head of History to join their team from September 2026. This is a full-time opportunity, with the school ideally looking to appoint on a permanent basis, although fixed-term contracts or long-term supply arrangements will also be considered for the right candidate.
As Head of History, you will play a key role in shaping and delivering a high-quality, engaging curriculum across Key Stages 3, 4 and 5. You will lead the development of the department, champion outstanding teaching and learning, and inspire students to develop a deep understanding of historical events, interpretations, and their significance in the modern world.
The successful candidate will also have the ability to teach either Religious Education, Economics, or Politics, supporting the wider humanities and social sciences curriculum and contributing to a broad and enriching educational experience for students.
Working closely with senior leadership, you will contribute to raising standards, developing innovative curriculum strategies, and fostering a culture of high expectations and academic success. You will support and mentor colleagues within the department, helping to drive continual improvement and positive outcomes for students at all levels.
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced History teacher seeking progression into leadership, or for an established Head of Department looking for a new challenge within a supportive and ambitious school environment.
The ideal candidate will:
- Hold QTS and have experience teaching History across Key Stages 3, 4 and 5
- Be able to teach Religious Education, Economics, or Politics to at least Key Stage 4 level
- Demonstrate strong subject knowledge and a passion for humanities education
- Have a proven track record of delivering excellent classroom practice and improving student outcomes
- Possess excellent communication, organisational, and leadership skills
- Be committed to inclusive teaching, high standards, and continuous professional development
- Bring creativity, innovation, and strategic thinking to curriculum development and departmental leadership
